How to Work With an Accompanist
Masterclass information and requirements:
Each selected participant will have 10-12 minutes to work one-on-one with instructor Larissa Lorenz along with professional accompaniment in front of the audience attendees. “How to work with a live accompanist” will be the main focus of instruction and include skill-building direction from Larissa.
The Masterclass will be hosted at Church of the Oaks in Cotati at 160 W Sierra Ave. Please show up early so as to not disrupt the class.
Participants are expected to be present for the entire duration of the masterclass, in which they will get to hear a lecture on the topic, watch and learn from other singers, and also participate in an instructor Q&A at the end of the class.
As a participant, you must:
● Apply with 2 memorized contrasting song selections (you may be asked to sing one, both, or parts of the pieces at the instructor's discretion)
● Bring prepared music copies of each of your selections for the accompanist to use
● Attend in audition attire
Participation is limited to 6 people, therefore being selected to sing during the masterclass is not guaranteed.

Meet our presenter:Larissa Lorenz is a performer and vocal teacher in the Bay Area. Devoted to her passion for opera, Ms. Lorenz has coordinated, hosted and performed ongoing outreach programs for schools, senior living communities, and public events, becoming an indispensable resource to expose new audiences to opera. In addition to her musical outreach Ms. Lorenz has also created and taught revolving vocal masterclasses to facilitate approachable and accessible music education to the community.
Outside of performing, Ms. Lorenz teaches voice and piano lessons at her private Santa Rosa Studio and Music to My Ears in Cotati. With over ten years of teaching experience, Ms. Lorenz emphasizes the importance of technique, healthy singing, and nurturing each student’s unique sound. Ms. Lorenz is also the Musical Director for the nonprofit Up Street Music Patrons whose mission is “funding music education, providing musical opportunities to adults and children for personal and cultural enrichment.” She is also a founding artist of The Artists’ Salon which re-introduces the classical salon format in a highly relevant space-the home-with the aim to enthusiastically foster meaningful relationships surrounding art and music. As a performer, Ms. Lorenz has performed with numerous opera companies throughout the Bay Area including: Goat Hall Productions, Pocket Opera Company, The North Bay Stage Company, East Bay Musical Chairs, the Jarvis Conservatory, Verismo Opera Company and as a soloist for numerous churches throughout the North Bay. A former student of Ruth Ann Swenson, Ms. Lorenz currently resides in Santa Rosa, California and now studies with Donna Bruno in San Francisco. |
